Due to this delay in getting a vehicle repaired, the option to include car hire is becoming a necessity. It is no longer considered a luxury. This option could offer convenience with day-to-day activities.

Should you be on holiday and an accident occurs, car hire could get you back on the road and secure safety and comfort. It is also important to pay attention to the vehicle groups available as per policy schedule to ensure the car meets your specific needs. The following options are available:

•     Economical group: similar to Hyundai i10

•     Standard sedan group – to include automatic vehicles similar to V/W Polo

Rental cars are available for following periods

•     30 days

•     60 days

•     90 days

Due to the shortage of parts and the delay in repair of the vehicle, extension of the selected period should be consider. Rental cars normally have minimal coverage on their vehicles. Car rental insurance typically covers three basic things – damage, theft, and third-party liability. Damage to the rental car includes damage to the bodywork, which is most of the car's exterior. That doesn't include the windows, wheels, or the interior. Costs and benefits must be considered when selecting the rental car insurance options. It is important to get clear advice.

Does my insurance cover rental cars?

It depends.

Personal car insurance generally covers rental cars with the same coverage limits and deductibles stated in your personal policy.

•     The deductible from the claim payout will still be the same should you file a claim against your own insurance.

•     Vehicle liability pays for injuries or property damage caused to a third party up to the limits sated on the policy.

•     Tyre and rims cover will be an optional extra.

•     Roadside assistance will be an optional extra.

Questions regarding reimbursement

•     The rental car must be refuelled, irrespective of what is indicated on the fuel gauge, and the fuel cost will reflect on your invoice.

•     The deposit that was paid will be applied to the invoice and the balance of the deposit will be refunded one day after you receive the invoice. This refund will appear in the card submitted to the rental company. The funds may take a few days to clear between the banks before reflecting.
